Pictured is an original size Box Bag with a black border.  The front and back utilize the pattern's full-sized original paper-pieced square rose design.  The bag is made from Asian inspired cottons, with a custom hand-painted wood slide and gold braided bolo cording.

This is an original size Box Bag utilizing a 6" Snails Trail quilt block.  The bag is made from African hand-dyed cotton damask fabrics with a fabric covered cord and a hand-painted wood slide.

Here is an original size bordered Box Bag utilizing the pattern's full size original paper-pieced square rose design.  The bag is made with dupioni silk and cotton with a hand-painted wood slide and brown braided bolo cording.

This is an original size Box Bag with a seed bead embellished border.  The bag utilizes the patterns full-size original paper-pieced square rose design.  The bag is made with Burmese silks with an antique brass coin slide and burgundy braided bolo cording.

These original size bags are on the pattern cover. Beginning clockwise from the lower left is a double pinwheel block, next is a bordered bag made from whole cloth silks and sashiko quilted, and the last bag employs the original paper-pieced square rose design included in the pattern. All the bags utilize matching covered cording, and painted wooden domed slides.

Here are three mini bags. Starting clockwise from left is a pin woven bag in dupioni silks, the next bag employs a combination of red silk dupioni and cotton print fabrics with the pinwheel quilt block included in the pattern, and the next bag is sewn with Thai silks utilizing the 16-patch block included in the pattern.

There is no end to how creative you can be by using different sewing techniques. Burmese silks are used in this example of dimensional patchwork.  Strips of contrasting fabrics in gold and green are inserted between strips of the red base fabric, and then twisted.

This is an original size Box Bag with contrasting border.  It utilizes the pattern's full-size paper-pieced original square rose design on the front and back.  The bag is made from cottong fabrics with a heart shaped hand-painted slide and cherry red braided bolo cording.

This original size Box Bag is made with vintage kimono silk fabrics.  The squares of the Box Bag are a perfect opportunity to try out techniques like this fabric manipulation.  This fabric folding method was used on a bag I saw in Japan, and I just loved the look.  The black finely woven bolo cording closes the bag with a coordinating textured slide. 

This original size Box Bag with a border is made with washed silk dupioni.  The front of the bag is pintucked.  Each pintuck is then turned and held in place coconut shell and pearl beads.  A braided black bolo cord pulls the bag together with a hand-painted wood slide.

This bordered bag is pieced with a traditional quilt block in the popular fabric line from Moda called Paris Flee Market. The strap is made of covered cording with a domed wood slide to match fabric.

Make the bags in African fabrics.  Starting clockwise from bottom left is a 16-patch bordered mini bag sewn in West African indigo tie-dyed cotton and red silk dupioni fabrics, next is an original size snail’s trail quilt block bag sewn in tie-dyed cotton damask called Bazin from Mali, and the front of the next original size bag is made with wax printed cotton cloth from Cote D’Ivoire.  Slides are painted or dyed to match fabrics.

These Asian inspired bags utilize domestic and imported Japanese fabrics. The bordered bag on the left has a pieced center motif, and a creative slide made of copper pipe. The other bag is made with the original paper-pieced square rose design included in the pattern.

Here are three sizes of the bag sewn using the same printed cotton fabrics.  The bag in the lower right is a custom size, and employs a centered motif stamped on silk dupioni fabric.

Both of these bags utilize the original paper-pieced square rose design included with the pattern. The bag on the left is out of silk dupioni and hand-dyed fabric, and the bag on the right is pieced with different colors of Thai silks.

This bag can look formal or funky depending on your fabric choices.  The bordered original size bag on the left is made from West African print fabrics.  The purse on the right is pin woven silk dupioni, and was designed for a wedding party.
